Depending on the amount of space you have to work with, however, it may significantly limit your choices for the interior work since the slope counteracts the ideal boxed shape of the loft. This design is also likely to be one of the more expensive options.

Shed Dormer

If your home already has a gable roof, a shed dormer may be your best bet. The contractor builds a loft that juts out from the existing roof at a slight angle, creating an eyelid effect on the exterior of the home. This design allows you to keep the look of your gable roof while maximizing the space for the loft.
